Spider Fact Books!
This fall we learned all about spiders! Kids read dozens of spider articles, books and studied pictures. My second graders were fascinated by spiders. At one point I was sitting on a chair surrounded by children jumping up and down in excitement to share a fact with me! Amazing! That's the best part of second grade: the excitement children have for learning!
We started our lesson with an anchor chart filled with questions we had brainstormed about spiders. Then we opened books and magazines and started gathering facts on a spider worksheet: spiders can, spiders are, spiders have. Next kids gathered any other interesting facts they wanted. We created spider books and filled them with spider facts. Kids made accordion spider legs and decorated the outside with eyeballs. When a guest opened the book, he or she learned tons of neat spider facts. Here's what they looked like:
